How to start a breakfast restaurant

I remember when I used to work in the corporate world and every morning, I would promise myself that I would wake up early enough to make breakfast before getting to work and I would only succeed in doing that a few times.

The other times I would have to by akara and yam from the woman who sells on the street close to my office.

Many working-class people have the same story and I believe this is a niche that is ripe for more people to take advantage of.

A lot of the time, I did not want to buy street food for hygiene reasons but at the end of the day that was the only options available. If there was a reasonable priced, cleaner and healthier option, I believe it would sell well.

If you are a food lover or a smart business person, this would be an amazing idea.

Here are my suggestions on how to plan and implement.

Target Market

Corporate Working-class individuals.

Key Location

City center with high rise buildings, banks, offices and market in a busy commercial city like Lagos, Abuja, portharcourt. Ideally you want a location where most workers rush to work and there are lots of young people.

Structure

Because your location would be at the city centre, the cost of rental for a store would be quite high therefore, it would be better to start off with a kiosk, a mobile food truck or stand. With a few chairs for waiting.

The meals should be take-out since most people are in a rush to get to work anyways.

Suggested Menu

Akara &Pap

Moi Moi

Agidi/Eko

  1. Thank you for this. I have been wanting to start a breakfast shop but facing the challenge of location. I can’t seem to afford rent in town. And I want it just like I am seeing in the picture. Kinda confused

    1. Yea, location is one of the top challenges you will have to overcome but it is key to the success of the business. You need to work towards finding an investor. Structure your idea and create a plan and find someone who would partner of invest.
